Get Ready To Live With Climate Change
No matter who you are, where you are, and what you do, it is time that you wake up to the prospect of living in a world, facing climate change. Whether you are an Eskimo, or a high-flying lawyer from New York, a simple farmer from Bangladesh; climate change is going to affect you, one way, or other. Are you wondering how? Or are you thinking that it is all a ramble of a doomsday preacher? Well, read this article and you will know that you are connected to every living thing in this planet and climate change is inevitable, whether you like it or not.
What Is Global Warming (climate change)?
In the scientific sense, global warming means the trapping of solar radiation within earth, by ‘greenhouse gases’. It is a natural phenomenon, responsible for maintaining life on this earth. But today’s global warming zealot says it is man made.
Ignoring decades of atmospheric science and thousands of years of human history, they now claim man’s actions of polluting nature and deforestation have increased the percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere, to an abnormal rate. As a result, since 1890, there has been a supposed ½ degree centigrade increase in average temperature, which is above normal.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news folks, but climate change has been occurring on this planet and planets throughout the universe since the earliest recorded history.
The Effect
Because of this increase in surface temperature some say, there has been melting of ice, whether polar or glaciers in high altitude. Now let’s see the effect of this melting. Melting polar ice will increase the sea level, threatening island nations; dumping of fresh water into sea will cause change in salinity level, leading to changes in eco system, weather, and rains. The melting glaciers will first swell the rivers that are fed by it, causing devastating floods. Ultimately, as it will dry up, so will the river, turning fertile lands into arid places. Disappearing glaciers will also lead to landslide in mountains.
How Will It Affect Me?
These changes will happen say the scaremongers, rapidly leading to shortage of water, food, and other resources. Droughts and floods will make millions refugees, leading to a humanitarian crisis. Political uncertainties will lead to armed conflicts. Do you believe this rubbish?
How Do I Adjust?
I agree that the earth is not yours alone; you have to share it with every living organism in it. So it should be treated right, do not pollute and try to preserve things for our future generation. I have no problem with walking or cycling to nearby destinations and using a car pool or public transport. It only makes sense that our cars are not a guzzler for oil and pollution control is under check. It’s not such a bad idea to switching to CFL lights, as they consume less electricity. Remember, that electricity in most cases comes from burning fossil fuel, so do not waste energy. And, alternative energy only makes sense in a rapidly changing technological world. Choose energy efficient gizmos and house design. So, change your lifestyle today and our future generation will thank us for the adjustments we make today.
