Trusting God to Do What You Cannot
“Behold God is my help. The Lord is the upholder of my life.” – Psalm 54:4
Sometimes I just need to focus. Have you been there? A crisis comes unexpectedly and I get in react mode rather than to think rationally. This morning the phone rang and yes it was an emergency. I was sleeping real good, so I let the person call back several times before I finally answered. Time for mom mode to kick in, but I felt angry, afraid, and more.
I got a cup of coffee and took a couple of breaths. Mornings like this I want to say, “why me Lord,” but it wouldn’t help. Then I asked God to please help and listened to the call.
Panic says I am the mom and must fix it. Well now, I can’t fix it. Maybe you can relate. It feels like I am on the edge of a cliff and the wind is blowing hard, trying to push me over. But God is my help. That translated means I trust God to do what I cannot. Since another verse says he won’t give me more than I can deal with I breathe slowly, talk to him about it, and calmly face the problem.
Slowly the coffee woke up my brain. The Holy Spirit brought calm. One or two useful ideas came to mind. I shared them and then listened to the caller. Sometimes all you can really do for someone is listen.
Dear Heavenly Father, at times like this I am so troubled. Help me to look up, focusing on you instead of the problem, looking to you for the help I cannot provide. I may be a mom, but I am not a goddess. The God part belongs to you. Help me to simply trust and obey in Jesus name, amen.
