A Changed Life is Available to You
“Don’t be afraid, Samuel reassured them. You have certainly done wrong, but make sure that you worship the Lord your God now and don’t turn your back on him.” – 1Samuel 12:20
Samuel’s words to the people of Israel could well be good words for us when we do wrong and then confess and return to God. You can’t fix the past, but you can move ahead doing what you should. Worship the one true God and do not turn away from him.
I am reminded of the woman caught in adultery. After all those men left and she was alone with Jesus our Lord did not condemn. Instead he said, “go and sin no more.” Jesus opened the door to a changed life for this woman. For her life had changed.
Perhaps you know you have failed to do what you knew you should have done. Maybe you think it is too late, that there is no way God would work with you now. Well now, consider God’s relationship with Israel and how he took her back every time. Sure they faced consequences for their actions. Some of those consequences were pretty harsh. Still when they repented and returned God welcomed them back. He did not turn them away and he will not turn you away either.
Let go of the past. Repent and reach out to God who loves you. Don’t be afraid. He doesn’t stand there with his belt off waiting to make you hurt even more because you did wrong. He won’t slam the door in your face, yell in anger and point his finger, refuse to forgive. God is not like an abusive parent. Instead God loves and cares for his children, wanting only what is best for us. Repent and return. God is waiting.
