Experience the Love of Christ
“May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great for you to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” – Ephesians 3:19
Experience teaches us much more than just book learning. I see this as I participate in the ham radio community. Yes I am a ham radio operator and I am gaining experience as I take part in the many activities offered to me. Still there are hams who know the correct answers to the test questions and then there are hams who actually know what they are doing. The two are not the same.
See you can memorize the answers to the test questions. Tests are multiple choice, so you can memorize and take the test and do quite well. Almost anyone can pass the Technician exam, the first level in ham radio. But if you simply memorize answers then you will need more experienced hams to help you set up your station, get a good antenna up, show you how to make the most of your equipment, even introduce you to organizations and leaders so that you can expand in the hobby. Just knowing the test answers does not prepare you to be the best at what you want to do. You must gain experience. You must put into practice what you have learned.
The same is true about the Christian life. You can read the Bible as you do any other book, yet never actually know the author or even understand the promises inside. Sure you may see some rules for good living, yet if that is all you see then you have missed out on much of what is in this relationship with the Lord. To experience God’s love, to know it for real, not just in your head, will change your life. It empowers you to grow in love and living well. As your love cup is filled by God you then want to share with others. As the Psalmist says, “my cup overflows.” The love of Christ in you flows out to those around you.
My desire for each of you is that the love of Christ be more to you than head knowledge. May you experience his love. May this experience empower you to live a full and powerful life in service to the one who loves you, the Lord Jesus Christ.
