Love Does Not Parade Itself
“Love does not parade itself, is not puffed up,” according to 1 Corinthians 13:4.
“Look at me” says our world and those who dwell in it. Recognition is something we all want, but when is it wrong to be recognized? It becomes wrong when you yourself are the one recognizing and then demanding that others recognize what you have done. Pride motivates this and God humbles the proud. Now you don’t want him to do that do you?
“Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3) Humility submits to God and in this submitting brings glory to God.Once again I turn to the military for an example. Privates and Sargent’s fight the battles, but Generals get the glory for victories. Generals command. They give the orders. They are in charge. And a good soldier follows orders. Are you a good soldier in the Lord’s army?
As a side note I hear in my head the children’s song. “I may never march in the infantry, ride in the cavalry, shoot the artillery. I may never fly o’er the enemy, but I’m in the Lord’s army.” Bet some of you remember that one.
Once again I will close by providing a human example of love and a lack of this self seeking pride spoken of in our chapter. Today’s example is a man who has so often come to my aid and yet I doubt that many even know it. Yes I do know a few such people. Two big ones come to mind, but this morning I will share about a local one.
He has taken me to several medical appointments, but I bet you didn’t know that. Also we love to talk while traveling. Often we talk about deep subjects, helping me at times sort out things on my mind. Both of us are hams so we also chat about radio stuff. He doesn’t want my money, doesn’t demand that I do things his way or else. The Great Salt Plains Net is richly blessed to have him on their team. He even helped the team to get another net control person so that he and I wouldn’t have to do all the work. Yes Derby John, as I tend to think of him, is an example of serving others in love. God bless you friend. You demonstrate his love without drawing attention to yourself. God be glorified.
