What has God done in Your Life?
“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work and meditate on your mighty deeds.” – Psalm 77:11-12 NLT.
Memories, yes we all have them. Good and bad we have them. One interesting thing about the human mind. We can choose what memories we focus on.
When I read words like today’s verse I am reminded of all the amazing events in my life, events only God could have made happen. See the psalmist gives us an example to follow. Likely you have read many psalms that repeat part of Israel’s history. Doing this encouraged the writer to keep going with God and not give up. But friend this is our example, not our personal memories. God has done deeds in our lives too and we would do well to remember them.
In my own life several events stand out to me. If it had not been the Lord such things would not have come to pass. Growing up I heard adults say I should live with mom and dad all my life, collect an SSI check, and be content living the life of a single woman. Well now, instead I have held a few jobs, gotten a good education, got married, had children, and I live the life of a typical adult. Praise the Lord.
And then we could speak of the miracle in my marriage. We were headed for failure, but God changed everything. If you knew Bill back in our past you would be shocked by the Bill who now loves his wife dearly and walks with God. Just this very morning he spoke words of encouragement to me as we prepare to go through a change in our daily lives. If you knew him back then friends then I must say, you don’t know him anymore. Praise the Lord.
I could go on and on about the miracles in my life. It hasn’t been easy, but it has been amazing. I almost died giving birth to our son, yet the key word is almost. You should have heard that doctor when he sent me home. He couldn’t believe what he saw. And if I told all the stories I would have to write a book.
Friends I encourage you. When you feel discouraged consider all that God has done for you in your own life. Don’t just stop at reading the history of others. Dare to remember your own history and how God has come through in the past. Happy remembering.
