When Times are Hard
“So they concluded, our only chance for finding grounds for accusing Daniel will be in connection with the rules of his religion.” – Daniel 6:5
Let’s play dirty. These leaders remind me of politicians in our own day. Here we have a man doing a great job and they want to take him down. Since they cannot point out faults in his work they decide to play dirty and attack his belief system. Yes the devil fights dirty and so do his children.
Reading on a bit you will find these men first went to the king requesting a new law, one that would directly conflict with his religion.
I hate to wax political here, but I believe we see this in our own time. So you can gather at WalMart or Kroger and that is fine, but churches must not gather together? Sorry if you hate mixing your faith with politics, but I see more folks in the local WalMart store than in some churches. Do you not see the hand of the enemy in this?
Tomorrow we will see how this plays out. I think we will find ourselves challenged by Daniel’s relationship with the one true God. This morning I ask each of us this question. Do you go shopping where others are also shopping? Do you attend church in person? Would you turn in your Bible if the government said to do so? Would you share your faith if you lived in Afghanistan or North Korea? Do you have a faith that contributes to how you live or simply a convenient faith that makes your life more comfortable? Friends these are hard times and your faith will indeed be tried. And when your faith is tried what will be revealed?
