What happens when the Federal Reserve prints more money? The U.S. Dollar Index declines and loses value. The dollar declined 40% between 2002 and 2008. Since then, the U.S. Dollar Index has declined by nearly 12.0 percent. This alone makes goods such as oil, gasoline, and food more expensive.
